It doesn’t matter if you a new real estate agent or have a wealth of experience in the real estate business. Time and again, I see so many real estate agents comparing what they do with others.

As a member of some very large Facebook groups, that are specifically for real estate agents, I frequently witness posts asking how others would handle a situation or what decision others would make if they had to.

Whilst I believe there is a lot of knowledge and learning to be gained through the sharing of information, thoughts and ideas. Take Care not to fall into the trap of comparison.

For if you are constantly looking to others, to see what they are doing, saying or how they are behaving. You will quickly find yourself comparing our own efforts against theirs.

Before long, you’re embroiled in a negative thought pattern.

Thoughts like; ‘I’m not good enough’, ‘I should of doing it differently’, ‘why hadn’t I thought of that’ being to surface. Next self doubt begins to creep in. Quietly whispering in your ear. ‘is this really the right choice?’, ‘Maybe I’m doing it wrong’, ‘perhaps I need to look and see what others have done before me’.

This cycle of inner talk will not lead to refining your success, it will hold you paralysed and suck valuable time.

The main reason comparison doesn’t lead to success, however is: Simple put success doesn’t look the same for each of us.

Ask 3 people to define what success looks like to them and the chances are you are going to see a variation in their answers.

What you consider a great win, could be just a normality in someone else’s life. What they desire may not be of value or interest to you. That’s what comparing yourself to others will never get you where you need to be.

If you’re looking to be successful in real estate, then you need to look within you. Stop comparing yourself to others and start looking towards your own strenghts and talents.

Work out how you can utilise these best with the industry., Put your own unique spin on things. Take the time to sit down and work out your own game plan and make the effort to evaluate the decisions you make, for their own merit.

What worked for you? What didn’t work so well? why?

Just because someone else is doing it differently, doesn’t mean it is the right thing for you.

Following others paths, will never give you the answers you need to evolve, to grow and to make better choices next time.

You have the power to create your own unique success.

Being a carbon copy of others, only leads to a hollow victory or blame being laid at someone else door when it doesn’t work out as you expected.

Comparison will more likely set you up for failure than it will success. So now’s the time to stop looking to others and start walking your own path. When you look back you’ll be thankfully for it.

You’ll probably also have plenty of advice to share with those walking their own path behind you, but remember. What got you to success was standing out as you, not comparing what you did against others.
