This is a bit of a hot potato in the real estate community. Some strenuously denied a win/win is achievable in the negations of a real estate sale. Others see value in attempting it. Yet few rarely pursue or achieve a true win/win. When it comes down to those tense final moments of negotiation that come with closing the transaction.

In a more general sense. Negotiations tend to bring with them, this misconception that it must be a battle. That there will always be a winner and a loser and many even enjoy the blood sport it becomes.

Yet, what if instead of playing hardball. Whoever you are representing, buyer or vendor. You took the approach of achieving a win/win.

What benefits could that bring not only for you but also your clients?

Unfortunately, I see a lot of real estate agents who focus in on only two factors. The agreed sales price and the commission value they stand to gain from the transaction.

Yet, achieving a win/win is not necessarily about the financial figure involved in the transaction. There are so many other elements of a property sale that can be used in negotiations. It doesn’t always have to come down to price.

After all, even though you are negotiating over the sale of real estate. It is not the property you are negotiating with. It is people. And the key to a win/win negotiation is about generating trust for all parties involved.

Going for the win/win in real estate

People do business with people they know, like and trust.

It’s about building relationships, telling someone else you value them just as much as you value yourself.  It’s showing them that you are willing to stay at the table. And keep on communicating until both of you are happy with the outcome you receive for the deal.

Going for the win/win in your negotiations will build your reputation. As a person who truly cares about the outcome for all. It will garner you trust and respect from those who do business with you. Strengthening both your integrity and your personal circle of influence.

Achieving a win/win in your real estate negotiations will springboard your success in the industry. It can set you on a path only a few will be able to follow.

So the next time you find yourself in heated negotiations. Take a step back and ask, what have I yet to consider in my negotiations? how can I make this transaction a win for all involved?

I genuinely believe you will be surprised. At just how easy it is to make every real estate transaction a win/win.
