One of the biggest draws to many coming into real estate is the lure of having more freedom and flexibility. Which is what the industry offers in comparison to more traditional nine to five roles… And real estate is most definitely not a nine to five job!

Yet somehow, with all the freedom to set our own schedules and be our own bosses. Being in real estate still has the ability to make use feel like we are weighed down by commitment. In fact in a survey conducted by Jet Xavier. 23% of agents state they had no time at all to pursue other interests. That’s almost a quarter!

It’s that constant pressure that comes with finding the next new listings. Serving our clients whole-heartedly in their demands. Or facilitating these transactions in the most streamlined and stress free way for our buyers or sellers. That can often leave us feel like there is little time left for anything outside of real estate.

However finding freedom, whilst still achieving success in our businesses and delivering unquestionable service to our clients; is doable and doesn’t have to come at a cost.

What is freedom?

Perhaps first of all, we need to begin by defining what freedom means.
Now for each of us, this could be something different.  For me. Freedom means; having contentment, living a life that is on my own terms and allows me to pursue passions that bring me happiness as well as closer to achieving the goals I set myself.  For you, it could mean more family time, or being able to pursue a hobby you are passionate about. It really is completely up to you, not your spouse, broker, or society.

Only once you establish what freedom would look or feel like to you, can you begin to take the steps needed to create it.

That first step being mindset.

Because how you view the world has the power to shape your entire life. You are a product of your mind. Your thoughts and beliefs stored inside you head, will create the reality you live and effect your ability to achieving anything in life. That means your freedom as well.

By controlling whether your mindset is working for or against you. You will also control the level of freedom you can obtain or how you experience it. Ultimately your mindset is what separates you from the life you have and the life you truly want.

Taking Control of your mindset

So before you set out on implementing any other strategies for creating more freedom in your life. The first and most important strategy you need to apply is taking control of your mindset when it comes to freedom.
This includes things like, your mental inclination, you attitude and your values and beliefs.

These control the conversations you have inside your head, before you even set out to do something. Statements such as: ” It’s not possible to be a ‘million dollar agent’ and still get home for dinner every night and have family time every weekend”. Its the multitude of reasons we have why things are not possible o r can’t be done. The thought, that no one else has every done it. Or its just not in my nature are all attributed to that of a fixed mindset.

Yet in order to really obtain freedom. You need to release those thoughts, beliefs or values that have been holding you back and replace them with affirmations of what you are capable of. Moving you to a growth mindset.
Even the most positive of us, have moments of doubt or lack belief in ourselves.

Yet by spending time doing the mindset work first and expanding our awareness on how we think and feel. We are able to ascertain where we are and where we need to be. Allowing us to breakdown what it’s gong to take to get there and rebuilding our mindset to support us in that journey.
